Funding for New Zealand’s goal
Before 2050, New Zealand wish to achieve net-carbon zero emissions. To achieve this, numerous funding initiatives have been put in place that encourage drivers to convert from Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). The following initiatives are currently in place:
- Investments in EV Charging Infrastructure made possible by the Public EV Charging Fund and the Low Emissions Transport Fund.
- The Low Emissions Vehicles Contestable Fund has invested in over 1,100 private and public EV charging infrastructures, ensuring their is a charger every 75km on almost all New Zealand highways.
- The Low Emissions Transport Fund by the EECA, provides support to businesses and communities looking to alter their practices through fleet transitions and large scale transport decarbonisation.
- A Road User Charge (RUC) exemption for electric vehicles until March 31, 2024.
